The Bar opened for business on October 14, 1938 with Smokey Wilson's Tub Zula Band of Hot Springs and a free glass of whiskey or beer. A leased grill made the place a restaurant and bar from 1953-63. It was featured nationally in a Marlboro cigarettes ad and at one time boasted a mural of "The Last Escape of Billy the Kid" by Hondo Valley artist John Meigs. The site is now being leisurely renovated by a local well-known photographer.
